Here is an excerpt from my graduation sermon…
Now I would like to say a few things specifically to the young men and then a few things directly to our young ladies.
First to the men…
The quota for wimpy men has been met. The world does not need any more girly men.
Men – BE MEN.
Here is what I mean by that –
• High school and therefore adolescents is over – it’s time to move forward with life, that means either education or career, and eventually marriage and children.
• I’m so tired of watching young men extend their adolescents into their late twenties. Hanging out playing video games all night, sleeping all day, soaking up on the parents dime, refuse to work, refuse to get married, refuse to grow up. MEN GROW UP !
• AND ONE MORE THING – you are probably not going to be a NBA or MLB superstar, and video game programmer or drummers in the band are probably not going to be your career.
• Maybe you will one day – I am not trying to kill anyones dream. I’m just saying in the meantime, go to college or tech school, learn a trade, or join the military, or go get a job, while your perfecting your superstardom. Scotty was grocery checker – Before he became the American Idol
• Oh yeah and when I say MEN – BE MEN – I mean REAL MEN. Not womanizers, chauvinists, or pigs. Treat the ladies like ladies, respect their purity, open doors. Bring back Chivalry – which is defined as considerate and courteous behavior shown by a man toward women.
• I’m convinced that many ladies no longer act like ladies, because men don’t treat them like ladies.
And now Ladies – BE LADIES … act like mature ladies.
And understand…
• Dating doesn’t work like it does on Sex in the City.
• Friendships are not supposed to work like The OC, Jersey Shore, The Hills, One Tree or Pretty Little Liars.
• Marriage doesn’t work like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, or Desperate Housewives.
• Having children is not just a cool thing to do and should not look like Teen Mom, or Sixteen & Pregnant or Secret Life.
• Raising Children is not Kate Plus 8, the Osbornes or family Guy
• Glee, Gossip Girl, Twilight, Lady GaGa and The Real Life are not the “REAL LIFE” that now lays before you.
SO MEN AND LADIES – IT’S TIME TO GROW UP!
The apostle Paul said, “when I was I child I acted like a child, when I grew up I acted like a grown up…”
It’s time to live as respectable, reputable, reliable, and responsible young men and women who represents Christ.
